ABOUT

State Of The Art offers fun and supportive art classes that generate creativity while students learn the techniques of master artists.

Small art class sizes and individual instruction encourages kids to progress at their own unique pace while they develop their artistic skills.

We start with the basics of drawing and working with pastels to add color, shading, and details. From there, students will progress through watercolor painting and eventually move on to working with oil paint.

CLASS SCHEDULES

Art classes meet once a week for an hour and a half. Classes are available Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00PM to 7:30PM. Saturday morning class times are available from 9:00AM to 10:30AM and 11:00AM to 12:30PM.

Students can try a free, introductory art class anytime. Simply call and schedule a day and time that works best for you. Class sizes are limited and fill up fast so we encourage you to call a few days in advance.

We appreciate that families are busy and schedules constantly change. If a student misses a class, they can make it up another day. Students can start and stop classes any time. They will pick up right where they left off.

Curt Otto

INSTRUCTOR

Curt Otto has been teaching art to kids for over 10 years. His love for art started as soon as he could hold a pencil. Throughout grade school and high school, Curt participated in a variety of art related courses and after school activities.

He studied graphic design in Madison, WI. for a number of years and in 2004, he began the very first art school for kids in downtown Waukesha.

In 2016, State of the Art was founded and has allowed Curt to refine his skills of teaching in a more individualized setting.

“Working with kids is a lot of fun! I am very fortunate to be able to share my love of art and creativity through teaching.  Over the years, I have learned that every student works at a pace and a skill level that is unique to them. State of the Art specializes in encouraging that very idea”.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Options for paying class tuition:

State of the Art currently excepts cash, checks, and Venmo as forms of tuition payment. If you pay for classes on a monthly schedule, your class times will always be reserved. If you miss a class, you can make it up another day or the following month. If you prefer to pay class by class, your space may not always be guaranteed.

May I stay with my child during class?

Out of respect and for the safety of the other students in class, under no circumstances are parents, siblings, friends, family, or guardians allowed to stay with students during an art class. Space is limited in the art studio and classes are designed to give kids an area to relax and create without the distraction or interference of others.

Student drop off and pick up:

Students should arrive at class no earlier than 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. This allows us time to be sure the studio is clean and each artist’s station is set up and ready when they arrive. If you are staying downtown during your child’s class, street parking is available for up to 3 hours for free.

Two blocks east of our location is the public parking structure and parking is free for the first 2 hours.

Timely pick up of students is always appreciated as it allows us time to clean the studio and set up for the next class.

Starting and stopping classes:

Each artist works independently so students are welcome to enroll any time there is a space available. If a student needs to take some time off, they will pick up right where they left off when they start again.
